So many options, so little time...

So Final Fantasy XIII released today, something I have been looking so forward to for quite some time.  And quite frankly, I haven't got the time to play it right now.  (Thanks a lot, newborn!)  But that is not the issue I want to address here... The issue I want to look at is this: what platform?

In my house we are far from loyal to any one platform.  We have the 360, the PS3, the Wii, a DS, and play computer games too.  We don't want to miss out on any gaming opportunity for lack of the required system.  But now, in this day and age where games are more likely to cross-over and be on all consoles instead of loyal to one, it's become an issue choosing which console to buy for.  For Final Fantasy I would think the PS3 for it's graphics capabilities vs the 360, but I read a review that said they are virtually the same.  I would lean towards the 360 because, well, I still prefer it.  I prefer the multiplayer functionality (not an issue for FF), and I way prefer the achievements feature.  Trophies still make no sense to me.  And the PS doesn't seem to offer the same competitive spirit with your friends that I find with Xbox's achievement/gamerscore.

So what affects your decision about where to game?  Do you wait until you can read reviews or do you just jump in and hope for the best?  I find myself dragging my feet on this particular purchase.  (If you're playing FFXIII on either console let me know what you think!)

well personally i sold my my 360 and all my games. with the upgrade abilities and 3d support coming via an update this fall and the fact that ps has stated they will not be making a new system for a few years due to the recession, i feel confident in my ps3 game purchases. but ms has mentioned the next system is on the horizon. factor in the less and less backwards compatibility the big 3 have been choosing to include in new systems, i am sticking with the console that i am banking on being around longest. however i tend to throw all that out the window because in my experience the ps3 has far superior graphics. and i'm betting that the same will hold true for this game as well. what do you think? also what is the online game play going to be in ff? if it's only gamer points vs trophies, there's not enough to sway me.

we solved this problem by selling our wii! well, not this problem specifically, I guess. but with so many games crossing over nowadays, I would think you'd have fewer people feeling the need to buy all of the consoles. except pretty gamer girls! ;)

Creegan: I'm not sure there is any online/multiplayer functionality with FF, but I have microphones to talk online in part on Xbox and have yet to get a headset for the PS3 soooo that sways me but totally simple solution.
Al: It is completely ridiculous to own all the systems these days, but there are a few pretty amazing games that are still single console that we just couldn't resist. I was dying to play Little Big Planet and Bret wanted to play, well, Blurays I guess. As I go along with the PS3 I'm sure there will be much more that I'll find to draw me in.

i do love my 360 for a couple reasons. first, better social community online. gamerscore is just more fun than trophies. 360 has way more console exclusive games and they are really good at that. i like graphics, but the 360 HD is more than good enough for me. i dont have any bluray movies so i dont need a bluray player. for me, gaming is fun and social, so im will downgrade my graphics from a 10 to an 8.5 in exchange for the awesome community and all its perks available on XBL. but i can really appreciate all 3 systems. they all have pros and cons. big gaming hugs for everyone !
