We Want to Celebrate with FREE STUFF !!!

For anyone who doesn't know, my partner in crime Linz has finally given birth.  I am taking this opportunity to welcome her new son Ezekiel to the world and more importantly to Achievos!!

This little guy has been wreaking havoc on her electronics for months now.  From within her belly, he has been killing car batteries, phone batteries, televisions, laptops, and more.  We suspect that Linz has given birth to the first of the X-Men.  Baby Ezekiel, aka Magneto, is here and his power is peaking with today's monster solar flare.  I assume the only way to appease our infant overlord is by giving away free stuff.

We are clearing out the gift closet and there are some serious goodies that need distributing.  We have t-shirts, posters, key chains, stickers, and other random paraphernalia we've picked up along the way.  We even have a brand new OnLive console that we are Giving Away For Free!  Unfortunately, the OnLive console is only compatible in the US, but anyone, anywhere in the world could walk away with plenty of other goodies.

The only way to get free stuff is by commenting.  Comment here on the blog and tell us who your favorite video game character is and why.  We will also accept you defending who your favorite X-Men character is, but you better have a pretty good argument if you chose anyone other than Wolverine because he is obviously the best.  You can also comment on the Achievos Facebook post.  You have until next Friday (March 16th) at noon to make your move.  Come on, we want to give you free things !!!!

And of course, Congratulations Linz !!!!

Link. He is the humble hero, the strong silent type, and he battles despite being constantly surrounded by women who claim to help him and instead, only cause more headaches. We all know how annoying Navi is, but Zelda is no help either. Instead, she constantly gets kidnapped and then usually used as some sort of puppet by Gannon, who for some reason, they never let Link kill, but only imprison. So his 'avatar' comes back 100 years later to do it all again. Moreover, he never even gets the chance to turn evil as a dictator after saving the world over and over again because he always just hands it over to the most easily kidnapped Princess known to man. I swear, Zelda and Peach have a secret bet with each other about who gets kidnapped more times.

He ALSO looks badass in a green tunic, (or blue or red) and a sweet sword and a loyal horse. And he never complains. In fact, I'm fairly sure he just never talks. Cause he's too busy kicking ass.

Ratchet & Clank. Being one of my favorite video game franchises since I first bought a PS2, they hold a huge part in my gaming 'childhood'. It is one of the best games to come out on the Playstation 2 and they are one of the most iconic duos in video game history. Ratchet's awesome wrench and badass weapons show why he shouldn't be messed with and Clank's dry sense of humor sometimes make me laugh out loud when the occasion is right. After seeing Clank on Ratchet's back, no one can say that they wouldn't want a robotic companion for their intergalactic shenanigans.

Ezio Auditore. If I could pick who I want to be in that would be it. Cool weapons, friends with an awesome inventor, what more could you want. Oh and you can climb everywhere and jump off high buildings. Plus I have had days when people make me mad. If you were Ezio end of story. Well their story at least.

I love Frost. The only character on Mortal Combat that I know all the moves to and can kick ass with. That was one of the first games I really got into and did well with. I also have to give mention to Alex Kidd. My seven year old son was convinced a couple years ago it was based on his dad, Alex, and is his adventures as a kid. He will tell the story every chance he gets. : )

Solid Snake. The ultimate badass superspy who can still save the world even in the body for a 60 year old man. He's fought psychics, giant robots, ninjas, and even deadly Zanzibar poisonous hamsters (Metal Gear 2 was a really weird game) with nothing but his wits and whatever weapons he could find. Love truly can bloom on the battlefield.

Also nice try but nobody's cooler than Wolverine.

Going with Nathan Drake. Naughty Dog has always done a good job of making entertaining games, and they really focused on the character development with Drake in the Uncharted series. Nolan North does an amazing job adding personality to the character, and Drake's facial expressions emote in-depth detail of what could be on his mind. He's an everyman and a witty hero.

Nearing the age of 30 now, there are many game characters that I could sit and ponder about and feebly try to say who would vaporize, smash, decapitate, out jump, out trick, out do who. In the end I think of my spiky haired companion with whom I lost all sense of time with, Cloud Strife. Not only was his story line kick ass, but he had a viscous sword as well as killer magic combos. This was the first game that I stayed up days to play, and for that I thank it.

Who better then the Dark Knight himself, Batman?! He is to me the person that epitomizes what gaming should be about time and time again. He has withstood the test of time and has gone through crappy movie games and has also been through very good games like Lego Batman and Batman Arkham City. Now call me crazy but no matter what there is always going to be a game that is going to come out and make you want to become the Dark Knight. Ergo you see him on system after system and wonder when will he stop coming back to fight crime with all of his gun free goodness! Even as we speak there is a rumor circulating that puts another game in the works due to his theater release of some of the greatest Batman movies ever to grace the big screen since 1992, The Dark Knight Rises. So I plea with you to take into consideration that he will be on every gaming system that you can possibly ever imagine to come and he has been there since Amstrad CPC. With this I bid you good day!

Auron from FFX. Anyone has played FFX knows that he is just the ultimate badass. The strong silent type who could knock down any foe put forth in front of him. His character role was a Guardian. Auron devoted his life protecting those in need, putting the matters of others before his own. To me, a character that memorable after so many years deserves a mention. I know he left an impression on everyone (that I know) who has played Final Fantasy X.

Here is one of my favorite scenes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6ZjHmNiAEw

Altiar from Assassin's Creed first game is my favorite, because he's mysterious, nobody really knows him, which works really well for him as he is indeed an assassin. It's hard to be well known, and be a good assassin at the same time. In his job assassinating others, he has the gift of eagle eye, which allows him to see heat signatures that tell him if someone is friendly or dangerous. That would be a pretty useful tool in real life. He's so memorable that he lives in another character's memory and helps that character find the treasure, and who wouldn't want help finding "the treasure"? This guy is just skilled at all kinds of great things - sword fighting, knife throwing, climbing the outside walls of buildings. Even as an assassin, he's helpful to civilians, which just makes him a nice guy. He is everything I strive to be - except an assassin.

Ms. Pacman. Cause she's hot. Oh that pink bow...

And the best X-Men character is actually Gambit. He throws exploding playing cards and fights with a bo staff. Wolverine is from Canada.

In all seriousness, I love each and every video game character. Except for Ms. Splosion Man. brrr it gives me shivers just thinking about that thing.
